Dragon Fist
Description:
Long Xing Quan, or Dragon Fist, is said to have been founded
by Lam Yu Gwai (1874-1965) from the Guangdong province. According
to family legend, Lam's grandfather sheltered a Shaolin monk
named Huang Nian Jiao who had fled to Guangzhou during the
Qing dynasty. Grateful for his assistance, the monk taught
him Dragon style. Master Lam studied with his grandfather
from childhood and reached a level of mastery high enough
to teach others by the age of 17. He continued to train with
his father until age 21, at which point he went on to learn
more Dragon from the abbot of Mong Fo Shan Temple, Dai Yuk.
Incorporating all these teachings, Lam breathed new life into
this venerated style. It is still popular in Hong Kong and
Canton, especially among the police, who praise it for its
effective Chin Na restraint techniques.
